The arrest of two farmers in Pune cybercrime case
The Dighi police on Thursday arrested two farmers from Indapur.
For allowing cybercrooks to dupe a 38-year-old software engineer of Rs 58.7 lakh by using their bank accounts. The techie lost the sum in an online cryptocurrency fraud between July 15 and Aug 12 using.
Senior inspector Bapu Dhere of the Dighi police said:
“Last month, he noticed an advertisement about investments in stocks and cryptocurrency. When he clicked on the link, he was automatically added to a group of investors on a mobile messenger app.”
The officer said:
The crooks offered him a good profit on his investment in cryptocurrency. They took Rs 58.70 lakh from him to different bank accounts between July 15 and August 12. “When the complainant did not get his profit amount, he started pursuing them. He became suspicious when the suspects stopped responding to his calls, following which he approached the police and filed a complaint,” he said.
